Dr Nilesh Mehta
MBBS FRACP FCSANZ
Dr Mehta is a senior cardiologist and Director of Northside cardiology. He has been working at Northern Hospital for last 13 years as an interventional cardiologist.
Nilesh completed his basic medical and cardiology training at Mumbai University, India. He completed Interventional Cardiology fellowship from St Vincent’s Health and was awarded FRACP from Melbourne University in 2007.
Dr Mehta has special interests in complex coronary interventions- chronic total occlusion and Rotablator angioplasty for heavily calcified blockages. He also has keen interest in preventive cardiology, and echocardiography
Nilesh is actively involved in teaching and mentoring cardiology registrars and advanced trainees.
Nilesh enjoys running, surfing and competing in triathlons.

Dr Fei Fei Gong
Cardiologist

Fei Fei graduated from the University of Melbourne and trained in cardiology at St. Vincent’s Hospital, The Alfred Hospital and Bendigo Hospital. She went on to complete a PhD evaluating the use of echocardiography in identifying patients at risk of future heart failure through St Vincent’s Hospital and the St Vincent’s Institute of Medical Research.
After completing her PhD in 2019, she moved to the USA to undertake a two-year fellowship in advanced cardiovascular imaging at Northwestern Hospital in Chicago. Here, she gained experience in transthoracic echocardiography, stress echocardiography, transesophageal echocardiography and echocardiographic guidance of transcatheter structural interventions, as well as combined radiology and cardiology training in cardiac CT and cardiac MRI.
Fei Fei has a public appointment at St. Vincent’s Hospital where she enjoys being involved in all aspects of cardiac imaging and clinical teaching. Her clinical areas of interest include general cardiology and valvular heart disease.
Dr Nalin Dayawansa
Cardiologist
Dr Nalin Dayawansa graduated from Monash University with Honours in 2013, and completed Cardiology training at Northern Health, Western Health and The Alfred Hospital. He is currently completing PhD research into aortic valve disease at The Baker Institute, and upon completion of PhD intends to complete further sub-speciality training in coronary and structural intervention.
In addition to his research, Dr Dayawansa holds a VMO position at The Alfred Hospital and maintains involvement in undergraduate and graduate medical teaching.
Dr Nigel Sutherland

Dr Nigel Sutherland completed his medical studies at the University of Melbourne graduating with distinction (MD Distinction). Nigel completed his specialist cardiology training at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, MonashHeart and Northern Health. He is currently undertaking a fellowship in multimodality cardiac imaging at Alfred Health. He has published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at local and international conferences.
His major interests include cardiovascular imaging, heart failure, valvular heart disease, cardiac care of cancer patients and cardiovascular risk prediction.
Dr. Rahul Muthalaly
Cardiologist
Dr. Rahul Muthalaly is an accomplished cardiologist who focuses on holistic preventative care to identify and manage risk factors before they result in disease. He has a strong research background, ensuring that he is at the forefront of medical literature. He holds accreditation in cardiaccomp.
He has received multiple competitive research grants including funding from the National Health and Medical Research Council, the Heart Foundation and Avant Medical. He has also completed a cardiovascular research fellowship at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard University studying atrial fibrillation and sudden cardiac death. He is currently completing a PhD in cardiology at The Victorian Heart Hospital. He serves as a reviewer for multiple medical journals and sits on the New Technologies Advisory Committee at the Victorian Heart Institute.
In addition to his medical degree, Dr. Muthalaly also holds a Masters degree in Public Health, which has given him a unique perspective on healthcare delivery and disease prevention. He has used this knowledge to improve the quality of care in his community, working with the Department of Health on healthcare quality improvement initiatives.
When he's not working, Dr. Muthalaly enjoys playing guitar, exercising, and reading. He is a dedicated cardiologist who provides compassionate care for a wide range of cardiac conditions.
Dr Manoj N Obeyesekere

Cardiac Electrphysiologist
Dr Manoj Obeyesekere gradated in medicine in 2000 (MBBS, Monash University, Melbourne) and is an experienced cardiac electrophysiologist caring for heart rhythm disorders. He undertook cardiology training at the Alfred Hospital, Melbourne (FRACP) and subsequently 3 years of cardiac electrophysiology training in Melbourne (Monash MC) and Canada (University Hospital Western Ontario). He was awarded fellowship from the international heart rhythm society (FHRS) and a doctoral thesis from Monash University (MD). His research has been published in reputed international journals and he has presented at international conferences. He undertakes cardiac ablations for a variety of heart rhythm disorders including atrial fibrillation and implantation of cardiac pacing and defibrillator devices. He seeks to provide patient centred competent care for your cardiac rhythm disorder.

Mala Rajah
Mala Rajah has over 30 years experience in all aspects of Cardiology. Her initial training was at Royal Melbourne Hospital and she completed her Diploma of Medical Ultrasound in 1991.
Mala's special interest is Stress Echocardiography. She is a member of Australian Sonographer Accreditation Registry and Australasian Sonographers Association.
Paul Lumley
Prior to his career in Cardiac Technology, Paul’s early working years involved project development and family & client support programs within disability services with a number of not-for-profit NGOs.
After commencing his training in Cardiac Technology in 2003 at Knox Private Hospital, Wantirna, Paul undertook his post-graduate studies in Cardiac Ultrasound at Queensland University of Technology in 2008, after which he has ejoyed practicing adult echocardiography in private practice, hospital settings as well as varied placements in regional Victoria.
Natsai Hanrahan
Natsai completed her studies in Brisbane, graduating from the Queensland University of Technology in 2010 with a Graduate Diploma in Cardiac Ultrasound. Since then she has worked in both private and public practice and enjoys the varied nature of these differing sectors, When she's not behind the ultrasound machine, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, as well as exploring all that Melbourne has to offer.
Tracey Muir
Tracey has been a cardiac technologist for 32 years. 27 of those years doing echocardiography and stress echo . Tracey also has experience in cardiac cath lab, electro physiology, pacing, holters and research.
